Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama and Bollywood actress Nandita Das visited the world largest open university Indira Gandhi National Open University on April 16 and April 22 respectively.
The 14th Dalai Lama, the Nobel Peace Prize Winner of 1989, Tenzin Gyaltso will deliver the 3rd Mother Teresa Memorial lecture on Mother and Compassion at the Convention Centre of IGNOU Main Campus, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi.
Lama, a non-violent freedom fighter of Tibet, was conferred the prestigious Congressional Gold Medal by the United States on October 17, 2007.
Dalai Lama is a Mongolian word which means Ocean of Wisdom. He began his monastic life at the age of 6. Faced severed blows and threats from the Chinese government, he had been into exiled since 1959.
The famous actress and social activist, Ms. Nandita Das will delivered a lecture on Identity and the notion of the other at IGNOUS Convention Centre, Maidan Garhi on April 22.
Ms. Das is an alumnus of Delhi University; she did her BA (Geography) from Miranda House and M.A. (Social Work) from Delhi School of Social Work. She had worked with various NGOs and continues to advocate issues of social justice.
French Government conferred her with the prestigious hnour, Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres in 2008. She is currently the Chairperson of the Childrens Film Society, India.
Indira Gandhi National Open University is celebrating a yearlong Silver Jubilee since November 19, 2009.
Various renowned experts and practitioners from different areas and academic disciplines are invited to deliver talks, discussions and lectures. The Silver Jubilee lectures are likely to end only after November 19, 2010
